Michigan Fund Raiser a Huge Success.
Summary by Coordinator Micki Carey, CMT.
I learned about Bodyworkers Without Borders this summer and thought "Yeah, what a great idea!" It wasn't until the end of September, when I had a dream that I had a fundraiser, that I realized that there was something I could do NOW that would support this great idea and the organization that is making it happen. So I got together with therapists that I share office space with and we decided to hold an afternoon of bodywork and fun at a local coffee shop. The Coffee Cup, in Marquette Michigan, is a popular gathering place and Peggy the proprietor welcomed our event. Other therapists, when they heard about BWWB and our benefit plans, joined in so we were able to offer a variety of touch modalities. Many of the attendees took advantage of the opportunity to receive sessions for the first time.
I had envisioned drum and flute music as part of this afternoon of fun and so talked to some of the musicians in my favorite local band, Terra Cotta Half Life, and they readily agreed to support our effort with their music. AND they brought some friends along, so we had some of the best local talent entertaining us as we enjoyed meetin', eatin' and treatin' with a whole host of folks that showed up to support Bodyworkers Without Borders. I overheard one gal say to a friend, "I should get going, but this is too good to leave." Another told me, "I hope you have another one of these." Yet another, "What a beautiful gathering...everyone has such smiles......the energy feels so good and warm." And perhaps the best, "I'll help with the next one!" Yeah!

It was easy to get donations for a raffle; everyone I talked to was eager to endorse this work. I tried to think of things that make people happy and support healing. We had a super offering: 3 months of life coaching, an evening of piano music, astrological charting, voice coaching, nature photography, natural stone jewelry, an innovative hand-thrown flower bowl, and of course, bodywork. We also had for sale a collection of locally made jewelry that not only contributed all the proceeds for the cause, but added to the fun of the afternoon providing a way for people to interact and SHOP! Ten year old Zee Henning was our jewelry retailer and did a great job.

When I started on this project, my goal was to help fund the work of BWWB. Soon I realized that the fruit of this endeavor goes well beyond the money raised. While my focus was on helping people in other parts of the world, we were building community right here at home. Connecting the people of the world is a lofty and worthwhile goal, connecting with my neighbors is too. I grew personally: in my heart, my awareness and my own sense of community. All through the process of creating this event I felt the joy it was bringing me. I got alot of "juice" from it. As Michael (Michael Lear, founder of BWWB) so aptly put it, "Juice is good."
Heartfelt Thanks to all who contributed physically, financially and energetically. Together we've created a wave of intention that knows no borders.

Thanks Ladies! from Michael
I can't put into words how fun and inspiring it was to work with Micki (She's the one with the big smile in blue. Although we have not formally met in person our connection was genuine, warm and heartfelt. In addition to her angel friends, her nieces, McKenna and Kenzie Henning who I spoke with after the event, were a big help. Thank you both. McKenna is the one at the desk and Kenzie is the one receiving a Reiki Session from Kirsten Gustafson. Kirsten, also an accomplished jazz singer, joined the band for a song to the delight of the crowd.
A special thanks to the Musicians Gary Parkkonen, John Letts, Dave Zeigner, Steve Leuthold and Steve Connolly made the Benefit into a party. To Peg at The Coffe Cup. The relaxed atmosphere made it a great place for meetin', eatin' and treatin'. You're a Luv, Peg! Also, thanks to Jackie Kosey, LMT for providing sessions to volunteers like Hailey Stenberg, and to Patricia Smolens and Jane Hendrick who also help with the event.
And Thank you Jenny Peano for the wonderful photos of the event.
Thanks again to Micki and all of her friends.
